Norwalk Public Schools is pleased to announce that LaShante’ A. James has been appointed assistant principal of Brien McMahon High School. Mrs. James joins Brien McMahon High School from Roton Middle School, where she was assistant principal for the past three years. She also served as assistant principal at Ponus Ridge STEAM Academy.

During her tenure at Norwalk Public Schools, Mrs. James created close working relationships with students, families and staff members to encourage a school culture based on acceptance. On a district level, she was instrumental in the revision of the Norwalk Public School’s Code of Conduct and the facilitation of bringing Restorative Practices to the district with the help of a diverse and talented team.

Prior to joining Norwalk Public Schools, Mrs. James’ professional career was within the New Haven Public School District as a high school English teacher for eleven years. Additional positions include staff trainer of technology and administrative intern. Recognizing the changing demographics of the students in her class, Mrs. James sought opportunities to learn Spanish to communicate with parents and students.

A leader in her community, Mrs. James serves as the president of the Theta Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and the Polished Pearls Foundation. This foundation provides community programs in the areas of education, economic empowerment, health, the arts and global impact throughout greater Bridgeport. In addition, she served as a member of the alumni board of directors for Southern Connecticut State University in the role of secretary for the past two years.

Mrs. James has a Bachelor of Science degree in English Education and a Master’s in Political Science with a concentration in Urban Education from Southern Connecticut State University. She also holds a Sixth Year in Educational Leadership from Sacred Heart University.
