NPS Invites You - May Events

May is the last full month of school. As the weather warms, many events and activities are headed outside.

Norwalk High School will host the long-anticipated NPS First Book 2023 on May 20, and the Family Center will host the Norwalk Community Health Center for free dental screenings on May 17. Be sure to catch the final weekend of performances for “Newsies: The Musical” at Norwalk High School.

Norwalk High School presents “Newsies”

Friday, May 5 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, May 6 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Norwalk High School, 23 Calvin Murphy Drive in Norwalk

The Norwalk High School Drama Club will present Disney’s Broadway hit musical, “Newsies” next month.

Based on the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899, the musical tells the story of Jack Kelly, a rebellious newsboy who dreams of a life as an artist away from the big city. After publishing giant Joseph Pulitzer raises newspaper prices at the newsboys expense, Kelly and his fellow newsies take action. With help from the beautiful female reporter Katherine Plumber, all of New York City soon recognizes the power of the little man.

NorWALK for Mental Health

Saturday, May 6 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Norwalk Green, 8 Park St. in Norwalk

Join many of our community partners to celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month at the 2023 NorWALK for Mental Health.

The family-friendly event will feature Zumba, yoga, physical and mental health screenings, art projects, and more! The 1.5 mile awareness walk (wheelchair accessible) will take off from the Norwalk Green at 11:15 a.m.

NCHC Dental Screenings

Wednesday, May 17 from 4 to 7 p.m.

NPS Family Center, 1 Park St. in Norwalk

The Norwalk Community Health Center will provide Dental Screenings for children 6 months old to 18 years old at the NPS Family Center on May 17. Screenings are FREE!

Norwalk Community College Graduation (P-TECH)

Thursday, May 18 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Hartford Healthcare Amphitheatre in Bridgeport

P-TECH Norwalk students earning a degree from Norwalk Community College will graduate from the college on May 18 at the Hartford Healthcare Amphitheatre in Bridgeport. Contact P-TECH Norwalk for more information.

Equal Access to Education

Thursday, May 18 from 6-7:30 p.m.

Brien McMahon High School, 300 Highland Ave. in Norwalk

The NPS Multilingual Learners Department will host the presentation “Equal Access to Education: How to Obtain Student Scholarships in the United States Regardless of Immigration Status” for parents on Thursday, May 18, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Brien McMahon High School.

Hear from speaker, writer and political analyst Luis Moros, who will share his experience of being a refugee in the United States and the perseverance and determination it took for him to succeed. He will provide information about the different types of scholarships available to students, scholarship opportunities for immigrant students and tips on writing scholarship essays and resume building.

Wolfpit Players present “101 Dalmatians Kids”

Thursday and Friday, May 18 and 19 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 20 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Wolfpit Elementary School, 1 Starlight Dr. in Norwalk

The Wolfpit Players will perform “101 Dalmatians Kids” starting Thursday, May 18. The 4th annual spring musical will feature 100 students in grades kindergarten through fifth with two separate casts.

It’s sure to be the most PAW-some production yet!

Cast A: Thursday, May 18 at 7 p.m. & Saturday, May 20 at 1 p.m.

Cast B: Friday, May 19 at 7 p.m. & Saturday, May 20 at 4 p.m.

Reading Opens the World, an American Federation of Teachers initiative in partnership with First Book, returns to Norwalk Public Schools on Saturday, May 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Norwalk High School. This year, Norwalk Public Schools is giving away 50,000 free books! 

Come enjoy all the fun with live storytellers, face painting, bounce houses, hockey lessons with the New York Rangers, and much more! Bring your own bag to fill up with all the books you want.

Ginger Katz, fundadora de la Fundación Courage to Speak, dirigirá el taller para padres "Parenting Through the Drug Crisis and Beyond".
