Students may have an extra day off this week, but teachers and staff are still hard at work!

Today’s districtwide, day-long Professional Development program is dedicated to improving classroom instruction. Titled “Deepening Instructional Systems to Accelerate Student Achievement,” this comprehensive Professional Development program was created to ensure that educators bring new ideas about instruction back into the classrooms.

According to Dr. Michael Conner, Chief Academic Officer, the workshops were also designed to build upon the momentum already underway.  Recent “short-term wins” cited by Dr. Conner include:

  • Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) gains at the elementary and middle school levels.

  • Top one percentile of achievement growth in the nation, based on our structural support data at the middle grades level.

  • State recognition for the K-3 Literacy Achievement Project (the CK3LI District Model).

  • K-5 English Language Arts and Math Curriculum implementation, with embedded “authentic performance tasks.”

  • Successful launch of the Middle Grades Design and Improvement initiative

  • Progress on K-12 Music Curriculum design, with a scheduled implementation date of fall 2017.

  • Implementation of CREC recommendations in all areas of Special Education

  • International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme approval at Brien McMahon High School.

  • The third year of implementation at Norwalk Early College Academy (NECA), the state's first Early College program.

Norwalk Public School is truly on track to “Raise the Bar and Close the Gap!” Thank you to all our teachers and staff members for your hard work and dedication.
