Seventh grader Jack Cahill expertly chopped scallions for a Cheddar & Scallion Biscuit Poppers recipe in the soon-to-be-renovated Family and Consumer Science room at Nathan Hale Middle School.

The kitchen makeover is made possible through Stop & Shop as part of the store's A+ School Rewards Program. NHMS earned $9,696.16 this year through the program, which
enables schools to earn money as customers make purchases using their Stop & Shop loyalty card. NHMS has been saving up over the last few years for the kitchen restorations.

Family and Consumer Science Teacher Ted White is looking forward to additional stations, which will allow students to learn important life skills such as cooking.

"This where application takes place," said White. Students take what they are learning in math, science and reading, and apply it to real life."

Last year's rewards money went toward updating the sound system in the auditorium. Nathan Hale has been involved in the A+ program for approximately seven years, and is one of the highest reward earning schools in Conn.
