On Saturday, April 9, the Kevin M. Eidt Memorial Scholarship Fund held its 17th annual scholarship presentation and benefit dinner dance at The Shore and Country Club in Norwalk. Gregory Calnon, chair of the Fund’s Scholarship Selection Committee, and first recipient of this scholarship, introduced Ava M. Rosato as the 2016 recipient of the Kevin M. Eidt Memorial Scholarship.

The $100,000 scholarship was presented to Ava, juAva Rosatodged the most outstanding senior in the Norwalk High School Class of 2016 in recognition of her outstanding dedication and achievements across the spectrum of academics, athletics, arts, and community and religious service, all areas in which Kevin participated and excelled.  

Ava was selected from a pool of applicants meeting the following criteria:

  • Member in good standing of the Norwalk High School Honor Society, (whose chapter is named in memory of Kevin).

  • Ranked in the top 10% of their class at the end of their junior year.

  • Resident of Norwalk.

  • Citizen of the United States.

  • By the time of graduation must complete a minimum of six semesters at Norwalk High School.

Twenty-six applicants submitted a preliminary application in October. In November, 11 applicants from this pool were invited to submit a final application in February, requiring letters of recommendation in support of their academic, athletic, arts, and community and religious service accomplishments.  From this pool, three finalists were invited to an interview with the Scholarship Selection Committee. The recipient was selected based on the way their application, recommendations, and interview most reminded the Selection Committee of Kevin.

Ava is ranked first in her class at the end of junior year with a 4.46 GPA. She is currently taking AP courses in Literature & Composition, Statistics, Calculus, European History and Spanish Language as well as Honors Principal Orchestra. For the first half of senior year her GPA is 4.75.

At Norwalk High School Ava is a member of the Kevin M. Eidt Chapter of the Norwalk High School National Honor Society, President of the Spanish National Honor Society, Vice-President of both the Senior Class and Student Government.

Ava is a three year member of the Girls’ varsity Cross Country Team, two year member of the Girl’s Indoor Track Team, two year member of the Girls’ varsity Tennis Team, and in senior year Manager of the Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team.

Ava has studied both piano and the cello. She is a cellist in the Norwalk High School Principal Orchestra and has performed as part of the Pit Orchestra for the School’s Spring Musicals.

In the community she has been a four year member of B.R.O.W.N., (Bears Reaching Out Within Norwalk), volunteering for Norwalk Reads, the Carver Center, FitKid Olympics, KidzFest, and the American Heart Association. Ava has been active in the annual Norwalk High School Dodgeball Fundraiser both as a participant and a coordinator. She is Co-President of Norwalk’s SafeRides and member of the school’s Link Crew to assist incoming freshman transition to high school.

Ava is an active member of St. Joseph Parish where she has been an altar server for the past eight years.

She plans on matriculating at Georgetown University in the fall.
