School Nurse Appreciation Day

May 6, 2015

The Norwalk Board of Education is pleased to recognize May 6, 2015 as School Nurse Appreciation Day in Norwalk.

Today’s school nurse is a health professional who juggles a complex array of medical and social issues. Their work goes well beyond playground scrapes and upset stomachs. A typical schedule may include screenings for health issues; administering of medication; responding to allergic reactions and accidents; helping students manage diseases such as diabetes and asthma, or other medical needs; and addressing the impact of mental, emotional and social problems.

In addition to working with students, they must also interact with other professionals, including teachers, administrators, doctors, counselors, coaches, parents, social workers, and more. For a school nurse, no two days are alike, and each day brings a new set of challenges.

The school nurses of Norwalk Public Schools are caring and committed to our students. By recognizing May 6 as School Nurse Appreciation Day, the Board of Education joins with our schools, families and the community in recognizing these dedicated professionals.
