For several decades the major
statewide testing programs were Connecticut Academic Performance Test
(CAPT) and Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT). With the adoption of Common
Core State Standards,
joined together to develop improved tests of student achievement based on the
Known as Smarter Balanced assessments,
Balanced online test will be given to grades 3-8 in mathematics and
English Language Arts/ literacy. Grade 11 students take the Connecticut SAT. These tests have replaced the Connecticut Mastery
Test (CMT) and the Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT) for mathematics,
reading and writing.
Students will test over multiple days, with schools setting their own schedules according to testing guidelines.
Connecticut requires that students in grades 5 and 8 continue to take the science portion of the Connecticut Mastery Test. Grade 10 students will take the science portion of Connecticut Academic Performance Test.
