Five Named to Administrative Positions at Norwalk Public Schools

The Norwalk Board of Education recently approved the following appointments to administrative positions at Norwalk Public Schools. 

Julie Parham has been appointed Director of the Center for Global Studies. She joined Norwalk Public Schools in 2010 as a world literature Instructor at the Center for Global Studies; most recently, she has also been serving as the co-coordinator of the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma program at Brien McMahon High School. Her teaching experience includes positions as an English teacher for Fairfield Warde High School in Fairfield, Conn., and Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, NY. She holds an MA in English and comparative literature from the University of Cincinnati, and a BA in theatre and sociology from Drake University. 

Damon Lewis has been named Principal of Ponus Ridge Middle School. Dr. Lewis has served as assistant principal at Ponus since 2011. Prior to that, he worked in Stratford Public Schools as school counseling department head for grades 7-12 and as coordinator of alternative services. He worked as school counseling team leader for Trumbull Middle Schools from 2007 to 2009, and as a school counselor at Trumbull High School from 2004 to 2009. His experience also includes roles as a career education counselor, coach, and summer leadership program facilitator at Bridgeport Public Schools. Dr. Lewis holds an Ed.D from University of Bridgeport, an MS in counseling from Southern Connecticut State University, an MS in education from the University of Bridgeport, and a BA in English and sociology from the University of Connecticut.

Theresa Rangel has been named Principal at Tracey Elementary School. Ms. Rangel joined Norwalk Public Schools in 2014 as a curriculum and instruction site director at Brookside Elementary. She served as an instructional coach at John Paterson School in Newington from 2013-2014, and before that, worked as a teacher/coach for South Street School and as an immersion teacher at AIS Magnet School, both in Danbury. She earned an MS in instructional technology and a BS in education/Spanish from Western Connecticut State University. She earned her educational leadership certification at Sacred Heart University. 

Jennifer Masone returns to Norwalk as Principal of Wolfpit Elementary School. Currently assistant principal of Hindley Elementary School in Darien, Dr. Masone previously served as assistant principal at Brookside Elementary from 2006 to 2012. She was a teacher at Brookside from 1998 to 2006, working as both a first grade teacher and fifth grade bilingual teacher at the school. She holds an Ed.D from the University of Bridgeport in education leadership, an MA from Fairfield University in elementary education, and a BA, also from Fairfield University in psychology. 

Medard Thomas joins Norwalk Public Schools as Principal of Columbus Magnet School. Currently assistant principal of Bridgeport’s Jettie Tisdale School, a K-8 school, he has also served as assistant head of school at Corlears School and Waterside School, and was assistant principal at Parkway Elementary School and the International School at Dundee in Greenwich. Prior to his administrative roles, Mr. Medard was a teacher at Parkway Elementary in Greenwich and in the New York City Public School system. He earned a MS in education leadership from Manhattan College, an MS in early childhood education from the Bank Street College of Education, and a BS in psychology from Fordham University.
