On Saturday, April 8, the Kevin M. Eidt Memorial Scholarship Fund held its 18th annual scholarship presentation and benefit dinner dance at The Shore and Country Club in Norwalk. Gregory Calnon, chair of the Fund’s Scholarship Selection Committee, and first recipient of this scholarship, introduced Grace Bradley as the 2017 recipient of the Kevin M. Eidt Memorial Scholarship.

Since Kevin’s passing 21 Norwalk High School recipients have received the Kevin M. Eidt Memorial Scholarship.
The $100,000 scholarship was presented to Grace, judged the most outstanding senior in the Norwalk High School Class of 2017 in recognition of her outstanding dedication and achievements across the spectrum of academics, athletics, arts, and community and religious service, all areas in which Kevin participated and excelled.  

Grace was selected from a pool of applicants meeting the following criteria:

  • Member in good standing of the Norwalk High School Honor Society, (whose chapter is named in memory of Kevin).

  • Ranked in the top 10% of their class at the end of their junior year.

  • Resident of Norwalk.

  • Citizen of the United States.

  • By the time of graduation must complete a minimum of six semesters at Norwalk High School.

Thirteen applicants submitted a preliminary application in October. In November, 5 applicants from this pool were invited to submit a final application in February, requiring letters of recommendation in support of their academic, athletic, arts, and community and religious service accomplishments.  From this pool, three finalists were invited to an interview with the Scholarship Selection Committee. The recipient was selected based on the way their application, recommendations, and interview most reminded the Selection Committee of Kevin.

‚ÄčGrace is ranked fifth in her class at the end of junior year with a 4.32 GPA. She is currently taking AP courses in Literature & Composition, Statistics, Calculus, Environmental Science and Spanish Language. For the first half of senior year her GPA is 4.69.

At Norwalk High School Grace is President of the Kevin M. Eidt Chapter of the Norwalk High School National Honor Society, and Secretary of the Spanish National Honor Society. She is also active as a Peer Tutor in Spanish, Biology and English. Grace was selected to participate to represent Norwalk High School on the school's trip to Spain and for the NYU Leadership in Athletics Forum.

Grace is a four year member of the Field Hockey and Lacrosse teams and named as Captain for both in her senior year. Grace was named all FCIAC and All State in Field Hockey.

Grace has been a member of the Norwalk High School Choir for all four years and a member of Chamber Singers in senior year. Grace also is a member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Choir.

In the community, Grace has participated in Safe Rides, member of the school's Link Crew to assist incoming freshman transition to high school, involved with Bears Beating Cancer and Al's Angels, (program for childhood cancer and rare blood diseases). As part of Grace's Project Explore independent study, she ran the Unified Sports program at Norwalk High School which pairs students with disabled students for competition in a variety of interscholastic basketball and track and field events. Grace also organized a Square Dance partnering with Arts for Healing, an organization integrating music therapy and art therapy to address a variety of individual therapeutic goals. Grace, as part of the Kevin M. Eidt Chapter of the Norwalk High School National Honor Society has raised funds for Norwalk Nargarote Sister City Project - a partnership in sustainable community development between the two cities that has existed for 30 years.

Grace is a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish where she has participated in activities including Young life bible study groups, volunteered for the St. Vincent DePaul food pantry, St. Jerome 30-hour famine, and Midnight Run/Breakfast Run bringing food to the homeless in New York City.

Grace has held paid positions at Springfield Florist, Lil' Critters Day Care, and Youth Lacrosse referee in Norwalk and Westport Leagues.

Grace has been accepted at Baylor University receiving the Dean's Gold Scholarship of $10,000 per year, Dickinson College receiving the John Montgomery Scholarship of $10,000 per year, and Furman University receiving a $25,000 per year scholarship.
